Email: rules, receipts and new-mail alerts

Email Pro now sorts your mail with rules you can group and switch on and off, asks for read receipts, signs and encrypts, moves folders and empties Trash. New-mail alerts reach the free Mail Reader too.

Email in your Domma CMS admin took a big step this week towards the desktop mail program you might be using now.

Rules that sort your mail

Rules file, flag and tidy your mail as it arrives. They can now be sorted into named groups, and a whole group can be switched on or off at once, so "Holiday" or "Newsletters" rules can rest until you need them. Rules run in the order you see them.

The quickest way to make one: open a message, open its menu and choose Create a rule from this message.... Rules opens with a new rule already matching the sender, or the mailing list it came from.

Receipts, signing and secure delivery

Compose now has ticks for Read receipt, Delivery receipt, Sign and Encrypt, and a draft remembers them. For each mailbox you can choose:

  • read and delivery receipts on by default,
  • replies filed in the same folder as the message they answer,
  • secure delivery only: if your outgoing server cannot promise an encrypted route, the message is not sent and you are told why.

Signed and encrypted mail (S/MIME) works both ways. When a signed message arrives, the reader shows who signed it and whether the signature checks out.

You can also pick your default editor (rich or plain text), turn automatic draft saving and spell checking on or off, and make Email open when you click an email link anywhere in your browser.

Folders and lists

  • Move a folder, with its subfolders, from its menu.
  • Empty Trash from the Trash folder's menu, after a clear warning.
  • Ctrl-click picks single messages and Shift-click picks a range.
  • A message in Spam has a Not spam button that sends it back to the Inbox.
  • Dates and times always show in your own time zone.

New-mail alerts

While your admin is open in any tab, new mail can pop up a desktop notification and play a sound. This one is in the free Mail Reader too.
