A new game every day: rotation and fresh puzzles for your Games

A games page works best when there is something new on it. Until now that meant someone opening the admin every morning to swap today's quiz in. Not any more: the Games can now run themselves.

A new game every day, from a queue

Quiz, Crossword and Word Search have a new Rotation card above their list. Switch Rotate to Every day or Every week (on the weekday you choose), and put games in the queue by marking them Queued. The first queued game opens straight away; after that, at your site's midnight the Tool closes the game that was open and opens the next one in the queue. Drag the queue to change the order.

• One shortcode, never edited. Put [quiz rotate /] (or [crossword rotate /], [word-search rotate /]) on a page once. It always shows whichever game is open today, and [quiz-leaderboard rotate /] shows today's board.
• Nothing is lost. Earlier games are listed under today's, still playable for fun, but no longer on the leaderboard.
• A nudge before it runs dry. You get a notice when fewer than three days are left in the queue, and another if the queue is empty.

Queued games are never shown to the public before their turn.

Fresh puzzles, written for your site

If you would rather not write every quiz yourself, we can switch on fresh games from Domma for your site. Each night Domma writes new quizzes, crosswords and word searches on a theme you choose - "football", "gardening", "local history" - or, with no theme, a different family-friendly one each night. Quiz answers are checked a second time before they reach you.

They arrive as drafts marked From Domma, and you get a notice ("3 new quizzes to review"). Nothing goes live by itself: use Show only these in the Rotation card, test them, then Approve one or Approve all and they join the queue. If you are happy to skip the review, we can set them to go straight into the queue instead.

Daily Word gets the same help: switch Top up on for a word set and new answers are added from a list of everyday words, never repeating within two years, waiting for you to approve.

Off until you want it

Everything here is off unless you switch it on. Rotation is a setting in each Game; fresh puzzles are set up with you, per site. Your Games keep working exactly as they do today until then.
