Unscramble it, or climb the ladder.

Anagram gives players scrambled letters to put back in order - or a word ladder from COLD to WARM, one letter at a time. They race the clock round after round, tapping the tiles or typing. The server keeps the time and the answers, and the best go tops the leaderboard.

What Anagram does for you

Two puzzle types

Anagrams, or word ladders where every step must be a real word.

Any real word counts

For words up to 8 letters, LEAST is right for STEAL too. Or switch on Only the listed word counts.

Tap or type

Tap the letter tiles or type. Shuffle the letters, take one back, or go Back a step on a ladder.

Random or daily

A random set of rounds every go, or the same rounds for everyone each day.

Skips and hints

Allow a skip or a hint, each for seconds on the clock. You set the penalties.

Checked as you type

Each word shows the other real words its letters make. Each ladder shows its shortest length, and a pair that cannot be joined is marked.

See it in 5 minutes

  1. Open Tools > Games > Anagram and press New game.
  2. Give it a title, choose the Puzzle type and type your words, one a line (or a start and end word per row for ladders).
  3. Press Test and play it yourself.
  4. Set it to Open, save, and put [anagram id="planets" /] on any page.

A daily game

The same letters for everyone

Choose Daily and a First day. Each day plays the next rounds from your list, in order, with the same scrambled letters for everyone. One go per name a day, and the leaderboard opens on Today.

Told before it runs dry

When an open daily game has 7 days of rounds or fewer left, its row says so and you get a notification. You can always add words to the end.

Straight answers.

  • The answers never reach the visitor's browser until each round is over. The word list the game checks against stays on the server too.
  • The server keeps the time, from the start of the go to the end of the last round, plus any penalties.
  • Players give a name only - no account and no email. Share shows how they did, never the words.

Can be gifted
