A menu bar that fits, in colour

Domma CMS 1.18: a busy menu bar now fits itself to the screen, its icons can come in colour, and there are new fonts to choose from.

A menu bar with a lot of links used to run out of room on a laptop screen. Links slid under the logo, or under the floating Search and Reduce motion buttons in the corner. In Domma CMS 1.17 and 1.18 the bar sorts that out itself.

The bar fits itself

Whatever bar shape you use, the bar now keeps clear of any floating button at either end. If the links still don't fit, it tightens a step at a time, and stops as soon as everything fits:

  1. a little less space between the links;
  2. a slightly smaller size;
  3. no dropdown arrows;
  4. the site name tucked away beside the logo;
  5. last of all, no icons.

On a wider screen you get the full bar back. There is nothing to switch on.

Icons in colour

In Content > Menus, on the Behaviour tab, Bar icons colours the icons along the bar:

  • Rainbow gives each link the next colour along. An item's own Tile colour wins.
  • Accent uses your theme's main colour for all of them.

Links shown as buttons, and links with a colour of their own, keep theirs.

More fonts

Theme > Typography gains Nunito Sans, Mulish and Urbanist. You can now choose one font for your site and another for the admin. If you have a licence for Cera Pro or a Euclid font, you can upload the font files to your site and use those too.

A fix worth knowing about

Saving a menu in the editor could quietly drop the menu's Binding, the pages or projects it takes over, and its Project. That's fixed in 1.18. If a menu has stopped appearing on the pages you bound it to, open it, set the Binding again and save.
